UPI Merchant Discount Rate to Start After Diwali

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced that the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on select person-to-merchant UPI transactions will be implemented immediately after Diwali. Merchants accepting UPI payments above ₹2,000 will pay a 0.4% fee, while certain categories will have a flat ₹5 fee. Person-to-person transfers remain exempt. The move follows a parliamentary amendment to the Payment and Settlement Systems Act.
