HealthUnion Health Ministry Proposes Stricter Rules on Prescription Drug Ads
The Union Health Ministry has proposed stricter regulations on advertising prescription medicines, requiring drug retailers, wholesalers, and distributors to obtain prior Central Government approval. The draft amendment to the Drugs Rules, 1945, aims to close regulatory gaps by extending advertising restrictions on Schedule H, H1, and X drugs to license holders for sale and distribution. This follows recommendations from the Drugs Technical Advisory Board in February 2026.
