Two Sisters Bought Cornish Island Now a Wildlife Reserve

In the 1960s, sisters Evelyn and Babs Atkins purchased Looe Island off Cornwall's coast and lived there for decades. They later left it to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, which now manages it as a nature reserve. The island lacks mains water, electricity, and shops but supports self-sufficient gardens. It hosts nesting birds, the largest breeding population of great black-backed gulls in Cornwall, gray seals, and butterflies.
