Turkey has asked its parliament to ratify a mutual defence pact signed with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, known as the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement. The pact, similar to NATO's Article 5, commits the three countries to consider an attack on one as an attack on all. Turkey may send military support to Saudi Arabia but will not deploy troops to Yemen. The agreement aims to boost cooperation amid regional tensions involving Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
