Tsunami Alert Issued After 7.6 Magnitude Panama Earthquake

A 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck near the southern tip of Panama, close to La Pitaloza, prompting a tsunami alert for parts of Central and South America. The US Tsunami Warning System warned of possible hazardous waves along the Pacific coasts of Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Colombia, and Hawaii. The quake was initially reported as magnitude 8.0 but later revised to 7.6.
