US President Donald Trump appointed John Coale, a lawyer and current Belarus envoy credited with securing the release of hundreds of prisoners, as his special presidential envoy for hostage affairs. Coale has helped return over 65 Americans and negotiated the release of more than 800 political prisoners in Eastern Europe. He replaces Adam Boehler, who secured 196 hostages' release and will remain a senior adviser.
