In a major political shift in Meghalaya, three of the four remaining United Democratic Party (UDP) MLAs are expected to join the National People's Party (NPP) on Monday. This will increase NPP's strength in the 60-member assembly from 33 to 36. UDP, which originally had 12 MLAs, may be left with only one legislator, party president Metbah Lyngdoh, who is also a minister in Conrad Sangma's government. This follows the recent merger of eight UDP MLAs into the BJP.
