Thomas Stone Estate Becomes National Historic Site in Maryland
Thomas Stone purchased a 442-acre estate in Maryland in 1770 for £400, which remained in his family for 166 years. Originally founded by John Barefoot and expanded by Daniel Jenifer, the Haberdeventure estate suffered a major fire in 1977. It was designated the Thomas Stone National Historic Site in 1978 and restored by 1997, now covering 328 acres and serving as a historical attraction.
