On November 4, 2026, Thailand stated that China must submit a formal extradition request to have two Uyghur men returned. The men have pleaded not to be sent back due to fears of abuse. Thailand’s National Security Council head, Chaipruak Doungprapat, said the decision will be made by courts, allowing the men to defend themselves. If rejected, extradition will follow the treaty; if accepted, resettlement elsewhere is possible.
