Telangana Declares 365 Mandals Drought-Affected, 111 Severely

Telangana government declared 365 mandals across 31 districts drought-affected for the 2026 kharif season due to deficient rainfall and prolonged dry spells during the southwest monsoon. Among these, 111 mandals are classified as severely drought-affected and 254 as moderately affected. The state received 615.5 mm rainfall against the normal 740.6 mm, a 17% deficit. The order is effective for six months.

DRDO Senior Scientist Dies by Suicide in Bengaluru

Sharad Katiyar, a 47-year-old senior scientist at the Aeronautical Development Agency under DRDO, died by suicide on October 21 in Seegehalli near Whitefield, Bengaluru. He jumped from the fifth floor of an apartment. Katiyar had been treated for psychological disorder and severe depression at private and government hospitals. His death was reported after his wife filed an unnatural death complaint.
