Tamil Nadu Offers Free Bus Travel for Disabled and Assistants

The Tamil Nadu government has issued an order allowing disabled individuals and their companions to travel free on state transport corporation buses under the 'Vettri Payanam' scheme. Beneficiaries must show a 16-digit Unique Disability ID (UDID) card to avail 100% fare waiver. The scheme covers ordinary buses in cities, towns, hill areas, and limited-stop services but excludes air-conditioned buses. Assistants accompanying disabled persons who cannot travel alone also get free travel.
