Tamil Nadu Buys High-Cost Power for 16 Days to Avoid Cuts
Tamil Nadu Energy Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar announced that due to a prolonged summer and a 30% rise in peak power demand to 21,000 MW, the state is purchasing expensive gas power at over ₹30 per unit for 16 days from October 15 to 31. This is to avoid unscheduled power cuts amid a nationwide energy shortage and reduced output from Neyveli Lignite Corporation by 1,850 MW.
