Tamil Nadu Auto Drivers Welcome Fare Hike After 13 Years

Auto drivers in Madurai have welcomed Tamil Nadu government's decision to hike auto-rickshaw fares after 13 years. The new minimum fare is ₹50 for the first 1.8 km and ₹25 for each additional km, up from ₹25 and ₹12 respectively. Drivers said the hike will reduce fare disputes and help offset rising costs of fuel, RTO fees, and insurance. The revision follows protests and negotiations by trade unions including CITU.
