HealthSwyer Syndrome: Rare Condition with XY Chromosomes and Female Development
Swyer syndrome is a rare disorder where individuals have XY chromosomes but develop female reproductive organs, including a uterus and fallopian tubes. It often remains undetected until adolescence when puberty fails to progress or menstruation does not start. Diagnosis may also occur during infertility investigations. The condition, known as 46,XY complete gonadal dysgenesis, involves non-functioning gonads that do not develop into testes.
