Swiss Startup's Solar Panels Generate Power Under Trains Since 2025
In 2025, Swiss startup Sun-Ways installed 48 removable solar panels over 100 meters of active railway tracks in Buttes. Over 11,000 trains have passed above these panels, which have generated more than 16,000 kWh of electricity. This three-year pilot tests if unused railway space can safely produce renewable energy without disrupting train operations.
