Supreme Court Upholds Andhra Pradesh HC Ruling on BC Reservations

The Supreme Court of India dismissed the Andhra Pradesh government's plea against the High Court judgment on Backward Classes (BC) reservations in rural and urban local body elections. The High Court had set aside government orders providing 34% reservation in Panchayat Raj Institutions and 33.33% in urban local bodies, ruling these exceeded the 50% reservation limit. The Supreme Court called the High Court's order reasonable and rejected the State's appeal on October 9, 2026.
