The Supreme Court of India ruled that a divorce decree granted by a foreign court on the ground of irretrievable breakdown of marriage is not legally valid in India. The bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Shree Chandrashekhar dismissed a plea seeking to quash a bigamy and criminal conspiracy case, stating such foreign divorces violate Indian matrimonial law and Section 13 of the CPC.
