The Supreme Court has directed the central government to effectively implement laws and rehabilitation schemes to end bonded labour. The court emphasized that constitutional prohibition of bonded labour must not remain only on paper. It ordered the Centre to establish a uniform standard operating procedure within six months to ensure economic support and dignified living for freed bonded labourers. The bench heard petitions highlighting delays in financial aid and rehabilitation.
