The Supreme Court ruled that banks must compensate victims of digital arrest frauds if the fraud results from the bank's failure, and prosecute officials colluding with fraudsters. Digital arrest frauds, involving callers posing as police to coerce money transfers, saw 21,928 complaints worth over ₹647 crore in eight months. RBI's new rules limit compensation to ₹25,000 for losses up to ₹50,000, but the court seeks full indemnity for victims.
