The Supreme Court orally assured on Monday that no voter deleted from Maharashtra's electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will face prosecution. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, heard a plea challenging the Election Commission's ongoing SIR exercise. The court refused to extend deadlines or restrain final voter list publication, scheduling further hearing for November 5. Around 33% of Maharashtra's nine crore voters were struck off, with 1.22 crore deleted due to 'logical discrepancy.'
