Supreme Court Appoints Ex-CJI Gavai to Head Tamil Nadu Forest Rights Panel

The Supreme Court appointed former Chief Justice of India Bhushan R Gavai to lead a special committee scrutinising orders under the Forest Rights Act, 2006 in Tamil Nadu. The committee will review claims of Forest-Dwelling Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers in the Agasthyamalai region. The court directed Tamil Nadu to complete Gram Sabha formation within 30 days and finish claim adjudication within five months.
