The Supreme Court ruled that for recruitment as a District Judge under Article 233, the required seven years of experience can be a combination of time spent as an advocate and as a judicial officer. The bench clarified that candidates with a total of seven or more years in these roles are eligible for appointment. This decision came from a petition by Rahul Singh, who was denied appointment in Madhya Pradesh despite clearing the selection process due to lack of continuous Bar practice.
