Sugarcane growers in north Karnataka have temporarily suspended their agitation, allowing the Centre and state government time to address their demands. The protest escalated from highway blockades to a planned march on Union Minister Pralhad Joshi's residence. A committee led by Ramesh Chand will examine the issues. Farmers demand Rs 5,500 per tonne for sugarcane, Rs 60 per kg minimum sugar price, better ethanol prices, and implementation of M S Swaminathan Commission recommendations. They warned of resuming protests if demands are unmet by November 26.
