SciencePhoto: HT WorldSubmerged Derbyshire Village Reappears as Ladybower Reservoir Drops Below 32%
The village of Derwent, submerged over 80 years ago to create Ladybower Reservoir in Derbyshire, is re-emerging due to a prolonged drought that has lowered water levels below 32%. The East Midlands entered drought status in August, with below-average rainfall and high temperatures causing reservoirs to fall well below normal levels. The reservoir was built starting in 1935 to supply water to growing industrial cities, flooding Derwent and Ashover villages.
