SciencePhoto: HT WorldStudy Warns Thwaites Glacier Melting Faster, Raising Sea Levels
New research shows Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica, known as the 'Doomsday Glacier,' is melting more aggressively than previously estimated. Scientists from UC Irvine and NASA found it could raise global sea levels by up to 1.2 inches by 2100, double earlier predictions, even without additional warming. The glacier currently contributes about 4% to sea level rise and is difficult to study due to its remote location.
