BusinessStrait of Hormuz Vessel Transits Drop to Two-Month Low After Attacks
The number of vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz fell to the lowest level since July 23, 2026, following a spike in attacks on tankers amid the US-Israeli war with Iran. On October 6, only seven commodity vessels transited the strait. Crude oil shipments dropped 27% from the previous week's wartime high to 10.1 million barrels per day, about 74% of pre-war levels. Ship-to-ship transfers in the Gulf of Oman mainly caused the decline, while exports from the Gulf of Oman coast and Red Sea rose to 6.7 million bpd, more than double pre-war figures.
