Shravanabelagola, known for its Gomateshwara statue, has two hills: Vindhyagiri and Chandragiri. Chandragiri is linked to King Chandragupta Maurya, whose vast empire stretched from the Himalayas to the Vindhya Range. Due to a famine predicted by his guru Bhadrabahu, Chandragupta led a southern migration. Their story is depicted on stone screens inside Chandragupta Basadi, built in the 8th-9th century AD in Ganga architectural style.
