Australian batter Steve Smith underwent a concussion assessment on day four of the first Test against South Africa in Durban after being hit on the helmet by a bouncer from Anrich Nortje. Smith was checked on the field by the team physio and doctor, replaced his helmet, and continued batting, scoring 27 runs off 41 balls before being caught. He did not field in South Africa's second innings, with Michael Neser substituting for him. Cricket Australia said an update would follow soon.
