In 2004, Steve and Terri Irwin transformed a small avocado packing shed in Beerwah, Queensland, into the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, inspired by Steve's mother Lyn Irwin's dream of wildlife care. By 2024, the hospital had admitted over 136,000 injured animals including birds, possums, and koalas. The facility now includes surgical theaters, X-ray rooms, intensive care units, and a pathology lab, continuing Steve Irwin's mission to save wildlife.
