Spot Market Power Prices More Than Double in September on High Demand

In September 2026, the average market clearing price at the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) Day Ahead Market rose to ₹7.3 per unit, a 105% year-on-year increase due to high power demand. Buy bids surged 281%, and Real Time Market prices jumped 108% to ₹6.9 per unit. Electricity traded volume grew 10.4% to 12,220 million units, with peak demand reaching 269 GW on September 10. Energy consumption rose 11%, and Q2 FY27 saw a 12.7% volume increase with prices up 46%.
