ScienceSpain Restores Pyrenean Lakes by Removing Invasive Minnows
In 2025, scientists from CEAB-CSIC treated two mountain lakes in Alt Pirineu Natural Park, Spain, with a biodegradable piscicide to remove invasive minnows. Ten months later, amphibians and aquatic invertebrates, absent since 2014, returned. The minnows, introduced accidentally as live bait, had harmed native species by eating amphibian eggs. This effort is part of the LIFE RESQUE ALPYR European project.
