SP Nikhil Explains 15-Day Review for Atrocity Complaints in Shivamogga

Superintendent of Police B Nikhil stated that complaints under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, have a 15-day review period before an FIR is registered. At a District-Level Vigilance meeting in Shivamogga, he said FIRs need not be immediate; if no FIR is registered within 15 days, a formal rejection is issued. The district has 161 registered cases, with 73 charge sheets filed and Rs 68 lakh compensation sanctioned in total.
