South Korea to Expand Anti-Piracy Unit Near Strait of Hormuz

South Korea plans to expand its Cheonghae anti-piracy unit's operations closer to the Strait of Hormuz, extending deployment to the Middle East beyond 2026. The unit, stationed in the Gulf of Aden since 2009, will operate near Oman's Duqm port, about 650 km from the strait. Seoul will also deploy a P-8A patrol aircraft and increase personnel, following US pressure to support the Iran conflict.
