Sonam Wangchuk's School Faces Labour Court Over Maternity Benefit Denial

The Himalayan Institute of Alternative Learning (HIAL), founded by Sonam Wangchuk, is accused of denying maternity benefits to former employee Amina Khatoon. Khatoon claims she was entitled to 26 weeks of maternity leave pay after working through her pregnancy and submitting all required documents. Despite this, HIAL withheld her salary, cut off communication, and deactivated her email shortly after her childbirth in 2024. She has filed a complaint in Leh labour court seeking resolution.
