Similipal Eco-Sensitive Zone Notification Pending for 7 Years, Centre Blames Odisha

The final notification for the eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) around Odisha's Similipal Tiger Reserve remains pending seven years after the draft was issued. The Union environment ministry blamed Odisha for delays, citing repeated failure to provide required information despite multiple reminders since July last year. The affidavit submitted to the National Green Tribunal stated that without complete data, the ESZ notification process cannot proceed. The draft ESZ was issued on January 29, 2019, covering Similipal and Hadgarh Wildlife Sanctuary.
