Sikkim Hosts First Himalayan Yak Festival to Promote Conservation
Sikkim held its first Himalayan Yak Festival in Gnathang Valley near the India-China border to promote yak conservation. Thupden Lachungpa, Yak Federation of India executive member, proposed creating a 'Himalayan Pole' or 'Yak Pole' to emphasize the yak's regional importance. The festival supports herders' livelihoods and encourages youth to continue traditional yak rearing amid declining populations.
