Shah Rukh Khan's film King has set a new record in Indian cinema with its overseas theatrical rights sold for ₹175 crore (over $18 million) to Phars Films. This is the highest amount ever paid for overseas rights of an Indian film, surpassing previous deals. Phars Films, experienced in overseas distribution, took over from Yash Raj Films, which distributed Shah Rukh's recent hits Pathaan and Jawan. King must out-earn these films to break even.
