Separatists Win Quebec Election, Promise Vote on Leaving Canada
The Parti Quebecois (PQ) won the Quebec provincial elections on October 5, 2026, pledging to hold a referendum on leaving Canada after U.S. President Donald Trump leaves office. Although PQ fell short of a majority, the victory challenges Prime Minister Mark Carney's national unity message amid trade tensions and U.S. annexation threats. PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon will become Quebec's next premier.
