Sensex and Nifty Open Lower After RBI Raises Repo Rate
Indian stock markets opened lower on October 8, following the Reserve Bank of India's decision to raise the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50%, its first hike in nearly four years. The NSE Nifty opened at 22,542, down 0.27%, and the BSE Sensex at 72,462, down 0.24%. RBI shifted its policy stance to calibrated tightening, with Governor Sanjay Malhotra ruling out near-term rate cuts.
