Sengol Craftsman Vummidi Ethiraj Dies at 99, PM Modi Condoles

Vummidi Ethiraj, the craftsman who designed the historic Sengol presented to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947, died on October 21 at age 99. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his death, praising Ethiraj's contribution to India's cultural heritage and traditional jewellery craftsmanship. Ethiraj was born on November 25, 1926, and led the 125-year-old Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers family.

21 Protected Turtles Rescued in Madhya Pradesh After Gang Tip-Off

In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the State Tiger Strike Force rescued 21 protected turtles following a tip-off from Raunak Juneja, an arrested member of an interstate wildlife smuggling gang. The recovered turtles include 19 Indian Pond turtles and 2 Star Tortoises, both protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Five accused have been arrested so far in the case.
