Scientists have synthesized a new form of carbon called diamondiyne, a three-dimensional network of carbon atoms resembling a diamond but with a more open structure. Proposed over 30 years ago, this allotrope was recently created and reported in the journal Angewandte Chemie. Diamondiyne adds to the known carbon allotropes with its unique crystal structure.
