Scientists are working to revive the dodo, extinct for over 300 years, using the Nicobar pigeon found in India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The dodo, which could not fly, was hunted to extinction in the 17th century on Mauritius. Researchers decoded about 95% of the dodo's DNA and identified 2,300 genetic targets by studying over 70 living bird species with AI, as the Nicobar pigeon is the dodo's closest living relative.
