Scientists at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have created a microgenerator mesh that converts human heartbeats into electrical signals. This lab-developed technology could reduce battery dependence in pacemakers and other implanted medical devices. The mesh, made from thin plastic strips and piezoelectric ceramic, produced voltages between 450 and 750 millivolts in heart tissue tests. The research was published in the journal Science Advances.
