State Bank of India (SBI) has steadily reduced the net interest margin (NIM) gap with HDFC Bank from 106 basis points in FY21 to 26 basis points by Q2 FY27. While SBI's NIM declined by 14 bps, HDFC Bank's margin shrank by 94 bps, reflecting margin pressures on banks, partly due to RBI's special window for non-resident dollar inflows. In Q2 FY27, HDFC Bank's NIM was 3.16%, and SBI's was 2.9%.
