Satellite Shows 73% Reduction in Bhutan’s Sintaphu Tsho Lake After GLOF
A satellite assessment by Suhora Technologies revealed a 73% reduction in the surface area of Sintaphu Tsho, a Himalayan glacial lake in Bhutan’s Gasa district, following a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) on October 29. The study also found a 24.4% decrease in a nearby supraglacial lake. Sintaphu Tsho, located at 14,700 feet, lost the most water, while the supraglacial lake remains larger than in 2016.
