Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut accused the Maharashtra Forest Department of ordering the cutting of over 32,000 trees near the environmentally sensitive Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary. This order precedes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to lay the foundation for the 3,000 MW SEDONGAR-I Karjat Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Project by Torrent Power. The project involves clearing 233 hectares of land, including reserved, private, and protected forest areas in Raigad district, costing ₹13,505 crore. Opposition and environmentalists criticized the project for harming forests and wildlife.
