HealthRural Elderly Women Face Biggest Health Challenges in India
In India, people are living longer, but healthy, active, and economically secure years in old age remain limited, especially for rural elderly women. At age 60, rural women have an average life expectancy of 18.5 years, with only 4.6 years expected to be healthy. Urban men at the same age expect 19.1 years with 10.2 healthy years. A study by researchers from Mumbai, Vienna, and Princeton highlights cognitive health as a major challenge for women and physical health for men, with significant state-wise differences.
