The Vera C. Rubin Observatory has discovered two previously unknown companions of the Milky Way using preliminary data covering 7% of the night sky. These include a very faint galaxy 355,000 light-years away and a star cluster obscured by cosmic dust. Scientists believe hundreds more satellite galaxies may still be undiscovered, with Rubin's telescope expected to reveal them.
