Rubber Vine Spread Across Vast Queensland Since 1860s
Rubber vine was introduced to Australia in the 1860s as a garden ornamental from Madagascar. It has since become a major invasive weed, spreading extensively across Queensland. This glossy, trumpet-flowered climber can grow up to 30 metres into tree canopies, covering creek lines, smothering native vegetation, and forming dense thickets if left uncontrolled.
