Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Line to Develop 'Honey Belt' in Himalayas

The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway corridor in the Garhwal Himalayas is being developed as a 'honey belt' and fruit corridor alongside its transport function. The 125-km project, managed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited with a Rs 37,000 crore investment, spans five districts and includes 16 main tunnels. Excavated material is repurposed to create landfills for planting 10,000 fruit trees like plum, apricot, peach, Himalayan blueberry, and various citrus fruits.
